Heads up, aspiring filmmakers, you have an opportunity to be mentored by internationally recognized filmmakers!
The Halikon Film Guild is calling for applicants for the Intensive Filmmaking Workshop to refine their craft and storytelling. Led by Arvin Belarmino and Kyla Romero, the workshop aims to impart lessons in directing, screenwriting, pitching and film viewing in four sessions.
Belarmino and Romero are the directors behind the short film Agapito (2025), which was selected for the Main Competition of the Cannes Film Festival. The short film also won an Honorable Mention for Best International Short Film at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and the Golden Star Award for Best Short Film at the El Gouna Film Festival in Egypt.
Belarmino also directed Radikals (2024), which was selected for the Official Competition of the Cannes Critics’ Week. His work and development as a filmmaker have also been recognized through several prestigious international programs, including the La Résidence du Festival de Cannes, Locarno Filmmakers’ Academy, Next Step La Semaine de la Critique, and La Fabrique Cinéma.
Romero also shares a handful of plaques as a writer-director whose debut short film Dosena (2021) earned a nomination for Best Short Film at the FAMAS Awards. She is also a recipient of the iACADEMY iNDIEGENIUS Film Grant 2025, and participated in international development programs such as the Cannes Focus CoPro and the HFF Munich Women Writing Lab, where she received mentorship from Oscar-nominated screenwriter Robin Swicord.
Organizers describe the workshop as an “intimate space for intensive craft,” with only six participants selected for this limited program initiative, allowing for focused mentorship and guidance from the two filmmakers and guest mentors.
Interested applicants are encouraged to share a letter of intent, a short video introduction, and a feature or short film concept, which the guild’s screening committee will carefully analyze.
For more information, visit Halikon Film Guild’s official Facebook page and register until March 21.
