LRT-1 Introduces Train Audio Trivia for Public Commuters

The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) launched “KasakaySayan” for LRT-1—an audio trivia series advocating for history education among the train’s daily commuters.

Recognized as the “Heritage Line”, LRT-1 is known for connecting passengers to history and tourism around Metro Manila, from the Fernando Poe Jr. station to Dr. Santos (formerly Sucat). This is also in part because of LRT-1’s location near Manila’s cultural landmarks, and its history as the country’s first light rail system, first opening in December 1984, connecting Baclaran to Central Terminal, followed by the Monumento extension in May 1985.

With every train ride in select 4th-generation LRT-1 trains, a short audio trivia will be played on-board as a simple reminder of each station’s history. LRMC views this as an opportunity to make LRT-1 a mobile classroom for commuting students and passengers, preserving cultural reverence for everyday commuters.

“These names—and the stories behind them—offer valuable insight into the history of Manila and its neighboring cities,” shared Renacimiento Manila President & Co-Founder Diego Torres in a statement.

KasakaySayan is now available in select LRT-1 trains, so expect a rich history lesson for every trip around the city.
