Repertory Philippines brings Man of La Mancha to Manila as it celebrates its 89th season of theatrical performances.
Adapted from acclaimed American playwright Dale Wasserman’s musical, with music by Mitch Leigh and lyrics by Joe Darion, Man of La Mancha is loosely based on Miguel De Cervantes’ Don Quixote, featuring the iconic “mad” knight. This metafictional musical presents itself as a play within a play, performed in-story by Cervantes and his fellow prisoners as they await a hearing with the Spanish Inquisition.

The musical will be directed by Nelsito Gomez, the Artistic Director of CAST PH who has helmed operas such as La Bohème for Viva Voce, MinTeatro (Saint Joan and Hamlet), and A Midsummer Night’s Dream for the Playbook Club. The musical will also feature the lovely and lively accompaniment of the Manila Symphony Orchestra, which is famed for seasonal concerts, opera galas, and classical music concertos.

Man of La Mancha had its original Broadway premiere in 1965, running for 2,328 performances and winning five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. It has since been revived four times on Broadway and has maintained its long-standing reputation in the musical theater industry.
