Fashion designer and sports advocate Avel Bacudio shared the latest uniform design for the upcoming 2025 Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.

The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) confirm that about 200 Filipino athletes are set to wear the “Laro ng Lahi” collection at the opening ceremony of the competition. Volleyball player Majoy Baron and basketball player Ricci Rivero modeled the newly designed fits for national athletes competing in the upcoming regional sports competition.

According to Bacudio, the new design incorporates local heritage and traditional games, all in a sleek modern design. “Let us revisit the games of the past and reintroduce them to the new generation, while also honoring our weavers,” he said in a statement.

The outfit is composed of a barong and pants combo, with the barong made from abaca (manila hemp), pinya (pineapple fiber), saging (banana fiber), and liryong pantubig (water lily), while the pants made using the trambia process, a traditional weaving style or pattern originating from the Ilocos region of the Philippines.

Aside from using local materials, the design also incorporates weave patterns of Filipino outdoor games like tumbang preso, trumpo, luksong baka, yoyo, luksong tinik, patintero, piko, luksong lubid, sipa, luksong kalabaw, and syato.

The Philippine team is set to participate at the Thailand 2025 Southeast Asian Games from December 9 to 20 at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. Stay tuned for updates and game results.
