When people think of Bohol, the Chocolate Hills, Panglao’s beaches, and the famous tarsiers often come to mind. But beyond these popular attractions, the province has plenty more to offer, from hidden food spots and countryside experiences to community destinations waiting to be explored.
A new partnership between Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA) and homegrown travel app tana! hopes to help visitors discover these lesser-known sides of the island.
Discover Bohol Through Local Recommendations
Developed in Bohol, tana! helps travelers find places and experiences through locally curated routes, themed collections, and recommendations from people who know the island best.
Through its partnership with BPIA, the app will be introduced to arriving passengers through QR-code travel guides, mini-zines, and a dedicated section featuring suggested itineraries and local recommendations. This gives visitors a chance to plan their next adventure even before leaving the airport.
Beyond the Chocolate Hills and Panglao
For those looking to explore beyond the usual tourist circuit, tana! features five curated itineraries under a collection called “Bohol Maxxing.”
These include countryside experiences with firefly watching, a half-day exploration of Tagbilaran City, and a coastal and farm itinerary featuring activities such as permaculture farming and cacao roasting.
The app also features an “Airport Hacks Only Locals Know” section, offering practical tips on transportation, tourist SIM cards, last-minute shopping, and viewing spots within the terminal.
Giving Local Communities a Bigger Spotlight
Beyond helping tourists plan their trips, the initiative also gives smaller businesses and community-based destinations an opportunity to reach more visitors.
By highlighting recommendations from Bohol residents, tana! encourages travelers to explore places they might not find in traditional travel guides. It also helps direct attention toward local businesses and experiences that deserve a spot on every visitor’s itinerary.
So, Is There More to Bohol Than the Usual Tourist Spots?
Absolutely! While Bohol’s iconic attractions remain worth visiting, discovering the province through local recommendations can make the experience even more meaningful.
With BPIA and tana! working together, travelers have another way to explore the island beyond the familiar stops. Whether it’s a countryside adventure, a neighborhood food discovery, or a hands-on cultural experience, there’s always something new to add to your Bohol itinerary.
On your next visit, why not take a different route and see where the locals recommend going?
