At just 15 years old, Filipina motorsport athlete Bella Cañete is already making her mark in the competitive drifting scene across Southeast Asia.
Jannah Isabella “Bella” Cañete, also known as “BabyDrift”, has spent years developing her skills behind the wheel, turning an early fascination with racing into a pursuit that has brought her to the podium and closer to her ambitions on the international stage.
She began her journey joining karting competitions at nine, building her skills in speed, vehicle control, and race discipline. At 12, she then took on a new challenge by entering competitive drifting. Competitive drifting is a motorsport that requires drivers to maintain control of their cars while navigating corners in a controlled slide. The move introduced her to a different set of technical demands and the challenge of competing against more experienced drivers.
Since then, she has continued to develop her craft through competitions in the Philippines and Indonesia, earning results that reflect her progression in the sport.
The Discipline Behind Every Drift
For Bella, the drift simulator has become an important part of her training routine. She spends much of her practice time on the simulator, working on the skills and techniques that she can continue to develop before an actual competition. The repeated practice allows her to focus on the details of driving, from maintaining control to improving her precision and consistency.
The mental side of preparation is just as important. Before a competition, Bella listens to music to help herself calm down and get into the right mindset. In a sport where drivers must make quick decisions while managing speed, angles, and momentum, staying composed is an essential part of performing well.
Behind every successful run is hours of practice, a commitment to improvement, and the determination to keep going even when the challenge seems daunting. For Bella, drifting is more than a sport. It is an opportunity to push her limits, discover what she is capable of, and inspire other young people, especially girls, to pursue dreams that may seem out of reach.
Turning Practice Into Podium Finishes
In 2024, Bella competed in the Indonesian Drift Series Women’s Drift Challenge Amateur category, where she earned the Round 5 championship title and Top Qualifier honors, followed by a P2 finish and another Top Qualifier distinction in Round 6. These results marked an important milestone in her early competitive career.
In 2025, she earned multiple championship titles. Her season included an overall championship in WDC Pro-Am, five WDC championship titles, five Top Qualifiers, three Mixed Gender New Gen championships, and a P2 podium finish.
In 2026, Bella continued competing at a higher level through the Southeast Asia Drift Series, recording a P1 result in the Pro Category Seeding Bracket, a P2 finish in Round 2 Pro 2, and a P4 finish in Round 1 Pro 2. She also earned a P2 podium finish in the Pro2 Class of the Philippine Drift Series last October 10 at the Philippine Arena.
Each competition gives Bella another opportunity to test her abilities and learn from the experience. While podium finishes are milestones worth celebrating, her continued participation in different categories also reflects her willingness to take on new challenges and keep developing as a driver.
A Family That Supports Her Dreams
Pursuing motorsports at a young age comes with challenges, not only for the athletes or drivers but also for the families supporting them. For Bella’s parents, seeing their daughter enter a demanding sport was initially frightening as drifting involves high-powered vehicles, technical precision, and inherent risks that naturally raise concerns for any parent.
However, they also saw Bella’s passion and determination. Rather than letting their fears define her path, they chose to support her ambitions and help her develop her skills while she was still young. Their support includes providing the resources she needs to train and compete, while continuing to guide and discipline her as she grows both as an athlete and as a person.
Their approach allows Bella to pursue a sport she loves while understanding the importance of responsibility, commitment, and discipline. Behind her time on the track is a family that recognizes her potential but also understands the value of keeping her grounded.
More Than a Driver
Beyond motorsport, Bella is a student and a young Filipina with a desire to make a difference. AccelHERate Onward is her advocacy initiative that highlights youth empowerment, encouraging young people to pursue their dreams with courage and purpose. It also carries a message for young girls who may not often see themselves represented in motorsport. Bella is showing that young women can carve out a place for themselves in spaces where they have historically been underrepresented.
At 15, her journey is still unfolding. But with her passion for motorsport, commitment to practice, and the support of her family, Bella Cañete is already showing what it means to pursue a dream with both courage and discipline.
