The holiday season is almost here, and with it comes another installment of the annual Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).
Now on its 52nd edition, the festival has finally announced its complete lineup of eight official film entries, continuing a holiday tradition that brings Filipino moviegoers together to enjoy local films every Christmas.
This year’s selection features comedy, horror, fantasy, romance, historical drama, and documentary films that celebrate the diversity of local cinema. With different genres and perspectives to explore, the lineup offers audiences plenty of options for their holiday movie dates with family and friends.
The festival’s first four entries were announced on July 7, followed by the remaining four on October 12. Here’s a closer look at the eight films set to screen in cinemas this Christmas.
“The Greatest Showdown”
Two comedy icons come together for a story about unexpected alliances. The Greatest Showdown follows Queenie (Vice Ganda) and Kingston (Vic Sotto), rival business owners whose explosive first encounter sets off a feud that threatens the businesses they have worked hard to build. As their competition escalates, the two may have to find a way to work together despite their differences.
The film is directed by multiple time Palanca Award winner and hall of fame inductee Jun Robles Lana, and produced by Star Cinema.
“Haunted Carnival”
Set in an eerie carnival or the perya in the 1980s, the third horror film in the “Haunted” franchise follows a group of strangers who enter the mysterious attraction and find themselves fighting to survive the frightening events that unfold. The film combines elements of Philippine folklore with chain reaction death scenes reminiscent of the “Final Destination” franchise.
Haunted Carnival stars John Arcilla, James Reid, Fyang Smith, Julia Barretto, RK Bagatsing, Ronnie Alonte, and Maricel Soriano, with direction by Joey de Guzman and production by Regal Entertainment.
“2nd Miracle in Cell No. 7”
Lito (Aga Muhlach) and his daughter Yesha (Xia Vigor) return in this sequel, which introduces an origin story and combines it with the Indonesian adaptation’s plot. The film revisits Lito’s past and his relationships with his fellow inmates, offering a closer look at the bonds that shaped his story and the love he has for his daughter.
2nd Miracle in Cell No. 7 is directed by Nuel Crisostomo Naval and produced by VIVA Films.
“Amir”
This fantasy-drama follows Amir (Argus Aspiras) and his father, Ali (Dennis Trillo), as darkness threatens their village and forces them to confront challenges that test their bond. The film explores the strength of family and the hope that can emerge in the face of uncertainty.
Starring Argus Aspiras, Dennis Trillo, and Glaiza de Castro, directed by Zig Dulay and produced by GMA Pictures.
“Seeds of Peace: The Life of Fr. Rhoel D. Gallardo, CMF”
This biographical meta-documentary tells the story of the Claretian missionary priest who served communities in Mindanao and became known for his faith, courage, and dedication to the people under his care. Seeds of Peace: The Life of Fr. Rhoel D. Gallardo, CMF traces his missionary work in Tumahubong, Basilan, and his abduction by the Abu Sayyaf in 2000. Amid the crisis, Fr. Gallardo remained steadfast in his faith and commitment to his community, even as he faced the circumstances that ultimately led to his martyrdom.
The documentary stars Zaijian Jaranilla as Fr. Gallardo, directed by Rommel Galapia Cruz, and produced by the Claretian Missionaries and the Gallardo family.
“Los Salvajes Bravos”

Set during the 1887 Philippine Exposition in Madrid, Spain, this historical drama film follows Ismael Alzate, an Igorot ex-soldier loyal to Spain, and the group he brings to Madrid as they struggle to claim their dignity and freedom back. The film explores a painful chapter in Philippine history, when Igorot people and other Filipinos were displayed as part of an exhibition that went down in infamy, even after more than a century.
Los Salvajes Bravos stars Romnick Sarmenta, Ruru Madrid, Michael de Mesa, Christian Vazquez, and Arnold Reyes, with direction by Paolo Dy and production by JesCom Films.
“Little Hope”

This family drama follows a young girl with cancer, whose greatest concern is not her own illness, but the future of her widowed father. Through her determination to help him find love and companionship, the story explores family bonds and the importance of making the most of the moments shared with loved ones.
Little Hope stars Pepe Herrera, Yassi Pressman, and Cailey Magno, directed by Benedict Mique, and produced by Lonewolf Films.
“A Perfect Marriage”
Rounding out this year’s MMFF lineup is A Perfect Marriage. This romance-drama film explores the challenges of keeping a relationship together, examining the complexities of love, partnership, and the lengths people may go to preserve a marriage.
The film stars Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino, directed by Dan Villegas, and produced by Quantum Films.
As the 52nd Metro Manila Film Festival officially opens in cinemas nationwide on December 25, let’s take this time as moviegoers to discover new stories and support homegrown talent, and celebrate Filipino cinema on the big screen.
