Another milestone is about to be added to Lea Salonga’s remarkable career!
The internationally acclaimed singer is set to receive her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on September 4 in Los Angeles, California, making her the first Filipina to receive the prestigious honor. The ceremony will take place along Hollywood Boulevard in front of the Pantages Theatre, with Salonga being the 2,855th honoree, and her star to be placed under the Live Performance category.
For many Filipinos, Salonga is known for her decades-long career that has taken her from the stages of the Philippines to Broadway and the West End. She rose to international fame as Kim in Miss Saigon, a role that earned her the Olivier Award and, in 1991, made her the first Asian actress to win a Tony Award for a leading role in a musical.
But her voice has reached audiences far beyond musical theater. Generations of fans know her as the singing voice of Princess Jasmine in Aladdin and Fa Mulan in Mulan and Mulan II—performances that eventually earned her recognition as a Disney Legend.
Now, her journey is being honored right on one of Hollywood’s most recognizable landmarks. The Hollywood Walk of Fame celebrates artists whose contributions have left a lasting mark on entertainment and popular culture.
