The Philippines will have a powerful sibling duo representing the country in men’s artistic gymnastics as double Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo and his younger brother Karl Eldrew Yulo lead the Philippine delegation at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, happening from September 19 to October 4.
Carlos, 26, is one of the Philippines’ most accomplished gymnasts. He made history at the 2024 Paris Olympics, winning gold in both the men’s floor exercise and vault. He is also a multiple-time world and Asian champion, with major victories at the World Championships, Asian Championships, and Southeast Asian Games.
Meanwhile, 18-year-old Karl Eldrew is quickly establishing his own name in the sport. He won two bronze medals at the 2025 FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships and transitioned to senior competition in 2026. He also captured a gold in the floor exercise at the Antalya World Cup and a bronze alongside Carlos at the 2026 Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
The upcoming Asian Games will be another major test for the brothers. For Carlos, the Asiad (Asia + Olympiad) presents an opportunity to finally claim an Asian Games gold medal after missing the podium in his previous appearance. For Eldrew, it marks his Asian Games debut and another important step in his rising career.
With two generations of Yulo talent competing together, Filipino fans have plenty to look forward to. The brothers will carry not only their medals and experience, but also the hopes of a nation cheering them on in Japan.
