If you’ve ever been into Tagaytay, chances are you also passed along an old establishment painted in red along Aguinaldo Highway. This is one of the longest standing roadside restaurants in Tagaytay, serving customers since 1979.

Mushroomburger is a home of iconic tasty burgers made from mushrooms, freshly picked from a restaurant’s farm in the nearby area. While it made its name in Tagaytay, it also has a branch in Quezon City.

However, last July 9, Mushroomburger announced that they have moved to a new location just a few minutes away from the old site. Those who visited the new spot described it as bigger in space with a modern interior. But what makes this long standing restaurant sentimental for many?

Alberto Reyes started mastering mushroom cultivation in the late ’70s, as he recognized early that these fleshy fungi had the potential to be an edible product that could actually be sold in the market. This has been confirmed by an unexpected conversation with a foreign customer, who remarked that mushrooms were more expensive than beef in his home country and made a joke that they’d make an even better burger. With Reyes’ expertise in mushroom farming and keen eye for seeing the potential behind the concept, Mushroomburger restaurant was born.

For most regulars of Mushroomburger, they come for more than just a tasty treat that they’ve enjoyed for years—it’s the nostalgia tied to the old site, which has been homebase for the restaurant for nearly five decades. Regular customers connect childhood memories with the branch’s playground and iconic wishing well, where both kids and adults could make a wish by dropping in a coin. While waiting for their orders, countless laughs and stories were exchanged in this place.

As it proved its concept viable time and time again, over the years, Mushroomburger’s menu has expanded to include different food options. If you explore their menu, you’ll find they currently offer eight variations of burgers, namely: Mushroomburger Royal, Mushroomburger Regular, Mushroomburger King, Mix Mushroom Burger, Chicken Royal, Chicken Burger, Mushroom Sandwich, and Mix Mushroom Sandwich.

The good thing about Mushroomburger is you can taste both the beef and the mushrooms, which make up roughly 50/50 of each patty. And if you enjoy healthier food options, you’ll definitely appreciate the Mushroom Sandwich and Mix Mushroom Sandwich, which has patties purely made of mushrooms. There’s also the Chicken Royal and the classic Chicken Burger, perfect for those who simply want to indulge together with a good pairing of dessert and a drink. And aside from burgers, Mushroomburger also offers rice meals, chicken and pasta dishes, dessert, and party size meals good for sharing.

Now with a diverse menu for people with various preferences, Mushroomburger has finally found a new home a few minutes away from the original location. In front of Taal Vista Hotel, the new Mushroomburger store is a fully air-conditioned three-storey building that offers ample space for parking and welcomes diners daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Safe to say, Mushroomburger is now 47 years and counting when it comes to bringing healthy and delightful burgers in the South. Ready to serve the new generation and pass the legacy of its iconic burgers. The place may be new, but the taste and prices are the same.
