Get ready to unwrap a world of magic, music, and mouthwatering surprises as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: The Musical officially opens at The Theatre at Solaire in Parañaque City. GMG Productions is bringing Roald Dahl’s beloved classic to life for Filipino audiences after a sold-out run at Shanghai Culture Square in November 2025 that also earned them a strong praise from viewers.
Based on the iconic novel, the musical follows young Charlie Bucket, a kind-hearted boy whose life changes after finding one of the Golden Tickets hidden inside a Wonka chocolate bar. His prize grants him access to the mysterious chocolate factory of the eccentric Willy Wonka, where imagination knows no limits and every room holds a sweeter surprise than the last.
Inside Wonka’s extraordinary factory are huge chocolates, sweets, candy inventions, and dazzling sets that make it feel as though they’ve stepped inside a dream. The whimsical world is brought to life through eye-popping visuals, immersive stagecraft, and cutting-edge 3D effects that transform the stage into a colorful wonderland. And of course, no visit to Wonka’s factory would be complete without the beloved Oompa Loompas.

Leading the cast are Cohen Toukatly as Charlie Bucket and Daniel Plimpton as Willy Wonka, both of whom visited the Philippines earlier this year to celebrate the production’s arrival. Joining them are Oliver T. Wong as Charlie’s alternate, Steve McCoy as Grandpa Joe, Mychal Phillips as Grandma Josephine, and Michael Dalke as Grandpa George.
Adding a proudly Filipino touch to the international production is singer and actress Karylle, who takes on the role of Mrs. Bucket, Charlie’s loving mother. Her performance includes “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket,” a tune many will recognize from the 1971 film adaptation.

Featuring iconic songs like “Pure Imagination,” Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: The Musical delivers a joyful experience filled with amazing performances, vibrant costumes and colorful sets that makes the audience feel as if they are transported into Wonka’s chocolate world. And more than just a visual treat, the musical is a heartwarming experience for the whole family.
Through Charlie’s unforgettable journey, the story teaches valuable lessons about the consequences of greed and gluttony through Augustus Gloop, materialism and never being content through Veruca Salt, pride and arrogance through Violet Beauregarde, and rebellion and disobedience through Mike Teavee. In contrast, Charlie’s kindness, humility, and honesty ultimately become his greatest reward, making the production not only entertaining but also a meaningful story that leaves audiences of all ages with lessons to take home.
