The renowned rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar announces its principal cast for its Manila run, with Filipino actor and singer Gab Pangilinan joining the ensemble as Mary Magdalene.
With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, the musical is a reimagining of the extraordinary events that lead to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ from the perspective of the betrayer, Judas Iscariot. Mary Magdalene is one of the sinners-turned-followers of Jesus upon her repentance for her sins.
Known for her roles in multiple award-winning shows such as The Last Five Years, Side Show, Ang Huling El Bimbo The Musical, and Mula Sa Buwan, Pangilinan will join a star-studded cast from the previous UK, North America, and Australian tours of the production, including Luke Street as Jesus, Javon King as Judas, Ethan Hardy Benson as Pilate, Grant Hodges as Caiaphas, and Kodiak Thompson as Annas, with Timothy Sheader directing.
She has also been a three-time Philstage Gawad Buhay nominee for Pingkian: Isang Musikal (2024), The Last Five Years (2023), and Mula Sa Buwan (2022), and a winner of Best Leading Female Performance (Digital) at the 27th Asian Television Awards for Still: A Musical Narrative Series.
Jesus Christ Superstar is set to stage from May 2 to 31 at The Theatre at Solair in Parañaque City. For ticketing information, visit premier.ticketworld.com.ph.
