The iconic OPM rock band The Dawn is back on stage in an upcoming collaboration with Ballet Manila.
The Dawn is a well-known Filipino band that rose to fame in the 1980s, pioneering Pinoy rock and new wave through poetry-ladden lyrics and anthemic melodies. Now on its 40th year in the industry, the band is partnering with Ballet Manila—a classical ballet institution and dance company—for a collaboration to remember.
Coincidentally, 2026 also marks 40 years since the homecoming of Ballet Manila’s artistic director Lisa Macuja-Elizalde from Russia’s Kirov Ballet.
“When icons unite, an epic, unique, and grand time is guaranteed,” shared Ballet Manila in a social media post, featuring the preliminary planning and meeting between the band and Ballet Manila’s Prima Ballerina.
The upcoming show, entitled “The Dawn of Ballet,” will incorporate the band’s songs as standalone numbers which will be interpreted by the performers from Ballet Manila.
